Black Water (2007) is a very intense, realistic Australian thriller based on true events, in which a couple and their sister-in-law are hunted by a crocodile in the mangroves of northern Australia.
Woooow! Some people have strong opinions about this film! We’re going to straighten all that out.
In absolute terms, I don’t agree with those who say that nothing happens or that the film is rubbish because the characters are up a tree the whole time. On the contrary, I think it’s an effectively suspenseful film, despite its length. In fact, I think you can feel all the tension of the situation in this film.
Poor protagonists! What else would we do in their place?
The actresses are excellent. I think the guys are too, but we don’t see much of them!
All the crocodile’s appearances are spectacular. It’s bloodcurdling!
You never know where he is. And he appears where you least expect him most of the time.
But even if you expect him, he’s incredible.
But why on earth is he alone?
Well… we can all suspect a few things…
Especially as the ending leaves a lot to the imagination.
Based on a true story, apparently? Really??
What really happened afterwards?
It’s not that important. The film is a very good thriller, not a horror film.
It’s much more psychological entertainment than an action film.
Yes, there are some long takes. But this film has more than done its job. It’s up there with the best crocodile films. Especially as there are no big Hollywood-style gimmicks to show that the beast is fake.
Black Water: Abyss (2020) was really fun!
I think I’m becoming a Jessica McNamee fan!
Apparently this is the third film I’ve seen with her that I’ve found really good.
The other two being The Neighbour and the latest Mortal Kombat.
As far as this film is concerned, I’m lucky enough to be able to immerse myself totally in this kind of film. I forget about the film, the cameras, the crew and the actors, and I’m part of the film.
So… I did freak out!
It has to be said that this subject is one of my biggest scares. I liked the actors and even the parts that you could see coming in the bronx of the love stories between the protagonists. I got what I wanted from this film. I wasn’t asking for more this time.
It wasn’t supposed to be a big-budget film, but fortunately it’s not a B-movie, let alone a Z-movie.
What I don’t like about the film is the short running times and the really exaggerated parts where someone gets away with a few scratches without really knowing why.
This isn’t a film where someone dies every ten minutes in atrocious conditions. For that, you’d need a bigger team than just 5 people.
The music is just right and the whole dark side, underground, with the biggest lamp going off and the crocodile making grandiose appearances… meant I had a great time!
Even the last scare when you think it’s all over is great.
