Okay, I admit I didn’t like this film! I tried to find the most negative review of this film! It’s very short:
“Very good actors, but long and disappointing, not worth wasting two hours on,
I stopped watching after an hour”.
It’s crazy, because that’s a sufficient review! However, I hate it when people give their opinion without having seen a work or without having finished it. And, despite everything, that’s also the advice I would give: don’t waste your time!
Want to know a little more? Okay, you asked for it!
Released in cinemas in August 2024, this Ron Howard film was only allowed to be released directly on Prime Video, despite its incredibly prestigious cast, due to its huge failure at the box office. But it’s clearly not without reason!
When you see the cast listed for the film, you’d think it couldn’t possibly be a huge flop. Alongside the famous Jude Law, the film features three of the most sought-after actresses in Hollywood today: Vanessa Kirby, Ana de Armas, and Sydney Sweeney. But how did Ron Howard manage to convince all these actors to join him on this project? Including the fabulous Daniel Brühl!
The plot of the film, adapted from a true story about a group of individuals who turn their backs on society and move to a paradise island in the Galápagos, is profoundly boring. Despite their best efforts, the actors fail to make these characters, each more pompous and boring than the last, even remotely interesting. Of course, the scenery is pretty, and the direction (although very academic, as is always the case with Ron Howard) is good, but that’s about the only positive thing about this film.
There’s not much more to say about this uninteresting film, which will no doubt quickly sink into oblivion, if it hasn’t already.
If anything, Daniel Brühl is fabulous in Colonia (2015), Inglourious Basterds (2009), The Face of an Angel (2015) and, of course, Good Bye, Lenin! (2003).
Clementine (2019) is a film with five directors. Sydney Sweeney is one of them!
Sydney plays one of the most important characters in the story. At the end, just before the credits, we see a photo of the real character. There’s not much resemblance, but Sweeney acts very well.
We see the actress’s chest quite regularly… but here, it’s for breastfeeding!
The sex bomb in this film is Ana De Armas, once again, although she is capable of anything: annoying us, touching us or making us laugh.
I’m not a huge fan of Vanessa Kirby, even though she’s in one of my favourite shark films: 47 Meters Down (2017). However, she plays the worst Madame Fantastic in the latest Fantastic Four film, Fantastic 4: First Steps (2025).
In this film, she performs better towards the end than at the beginning, so she’s better in the first half than the second.
As for Jude Law, he needs no introduction. But I’m so glad he’s in Sherlock Holmes 1 & 2 (2010 and 2011), Side Effects (2013), The Holiday (2006), Lemony Snicket’s A Series Of Unfortunate Events (2004), among others.
