Murder by Numbers (2002)

Well… let’s just say it’s good! The effect of cinema is completely crazy! Because I loved it when it came out, and seeing it again today, I find it rather bad.

At the time, I only knew Sandra Bullock! That’s why it’s nice to watch this film again, knowing that I love Agnes Bruckner and Ryan Gosling today. As for Ben Chaplin and Chris Penn, it’s nice to see them. But there’s nothing exceptional about this film, really.

Even the criminology expert, I had a rather classy image of her. Not an image of someone so tortured. It doesn’t bother me that much, but it’s crazy how false memories can be!

For those who want me to elaborate a little more:

We often see Sandra in comedies, which is a shame, because she plays serious roles well. It’s great to see Sandra, Ryan, and Ben. Sandra is sexy here, really cute. Unfortunately, that doesn’t help the film much. Halfway through, the story runs out of steam a little, but it gets exciting again towards the end. The story could have been even better, and it’s mainly the ending that’s a letdown. So not that great!

I wasn’t blown away. It’s entertaining, but never really exciting. You might think Bullock is a bad actress, but it’s her character that’s exasperating.

If you really like her, watch “Miss Congeniality” instead. Not terrible, not too scary either. I was expecting a little more. I wouldn’t buy it.

But comparing it to Hitchcock? My ass! Reading the summary, you might think, “Finally, a good movie with Sandra Bullock, especially if you like thrillers.” Worth watching once, but that’s it! I can’t recommend it.

Michael Pitt is perhaps the most impressive. In short, I don’t think this film will rise in my estimation even after a third viewing. I thought I would give it 5 stars, but I find myself happy to give it 3. That says it all!

Rating: 3 out of 5.
