Velocity Girl – Gilded Stars & Zealous Hearts (1996)
Incredible! This Sub Pop band broke up in 1996, but quickly reformed in 2002. Since then, I’ve been waiting over twenty years for a possible return… and I’ve just seen that they’ve reunited in 2023… but that’s already over. I’m not giving up on seeing them one day. But it might not be the same again. Especially if some of the members change.
This third album is slightly less good than the other things they’ve done. I wonder if that’s what made them stop. If that’s the case, it’s always very smart to stop when you’re in a bit of a slump… rather than persisting and really disappointing. Because a band that has made a good impression disappears, and you’re left on a good note, whereas a band that disappoints, you don’t expect them any more.
This band, who started out in 1989, were one of the best of the 90s alongside Blur, Mansun, No Doubt, Smash Mouth, Garbage, Lush, Dubstar, Nirvana, Pixies, Salad and the list goes on. They took their name from a Primal Scream B-side. Less good or not… that’s just my opinion. Still, I have an infinite love for this band, who excel at Indie of all kinds: Indie Rock & Indie Pop.
