Reunion (2024) This film gives us hope for this cinematic year. I feel like saying finally, a really good film in 2024!
Jamie Chung, an excellent actress, has unfortunately appeared in a few failed films. That’s why I’m only going to mention the excellent Sucker Punch, the very bad Sin City 2 (but which had a great cast). She was also in Flight 7500 (2014).
Amy Smart in the same film as Leslie Bibb was good enough… but with Jamie as well…It was a good film. There’s something that bothers me about this film. The most annoying male character played by Lil Rel Howery ends up having a flash of lucidity that ends up making him sympathetic and interesting.
Nina Dobrev plays the second most annoying person. Perfect in the role of the emotionless snob who thinks only of her career.
Billy Magnussen seems to play someone completely flat, with no depth. But his character is not without surprise…We see very little of Siobhan Murphy. Her role may seem shocking to the most prudish and modest. But it can also show the various facets of a human being who might be thought angelic.
Chace Crawford plays the guy who seems to have achieved everything, who has this arrogant attitude, but who comes up with the idea of creating this alumni reunion.
And I’ve saved Jillian Bell for last, because she’s probably the one I warmed up to the quickest and made me laugh the most. Her character makes all the difference and the film would be empty without her.
It’s worth noting that all these actors look younger. They look like they’re in their early thirties, while some are well into their forties. This film is not full of clichés.
It’s very good humour, reminiscent of the comic horror film Bodies Bodies Bodies, except that Reunion is clearly a crime film, not a horror film. There’s that Hercule Poirot feel where a murder has taken place and everyone becomes a potential suspect. It’s not a slasher film, for those still wondering. In any case, I had a great time.
