Que ma volonté soit faite (2025)
The title translates to: Let My Will Be Done
A drama… but I don’t know which part is more dramatic!
Honestly, this is the kind of movie I hate, and what an ordeal it was to watch it all the way through—even though I wanted to turn it off after ten minutes. The dialogue is terrible, it’s cringeworthy, and nothing is subtle. I don’t need to see scenes where everyone’s eating, and hearing all those mouth noises isn’t why I go to the movies. And honestly… a woman trying to escape, running around waving her flashlight in all directions without getting spotted… do you really buy that?
No, this movie isn’t Russian! It’s a French-Polish co-production directed by Julia Kowalski. It premiered as part of the Directors’ Fortnight at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival. For one thing, I don’t like French movies in general, but on top of that, I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything good that had “Cannes” in its name. Yeah, to each their own!
And that’s not all: May 16, 2025, Cannes Film Festival… and July 7, 2025: Neuchâtel International Fantastic Film Festival! And I’ve never seen a good movie at the Neuchâtel Festival either!!!
The film’s working title is Sorcière (Witch). How original!!!
Why did I even bother watching this cheap witchcraft movie? I always try to keep an open mind, as hard as that might seem with this kind of movie. On paper, it sounded original, pretty mysterious, and interesting! But reality quickly set in: it’s very cold, poorly made, slow, and lacking any real ambition. I really didn’t like it.
Still, the synopsis intrigued me: “The young Nawojka (…), hides a terrible secret: a monstrous power, which she believes she inherited from her late mother, awakens every time she FEELS DESIRE.” Really??? The movie shows absolutely none of that. Instead, we witness behavior that seems to border on schizophrenia against a backdrop of gratuitous and pointless violence.
So I was misled by the rave reviews I read, which are completely off the mark—just like the direction. The performance of the lead actress, Maria Wróbel as Nawojka, is nevertheless commendable. So 0.5 stars for her—because it doesn’t deserve any more than that! They absolutely must stop wasting the audience’s time and money… or at least be more honest in the synopses. I’m very angry!
One of the worst movies I’ve ever seen—by far! It certainly doesn’t enhance the cinematography of 2025.
The documentary-style approach makes the whole thing too grim. It really feels like the animals suffered during filming.

Earthy, visceral, organic—yes. But above all, unsettling.
The caricatured psychological portrayal of the female characters is disastrous.
A sinister, gritty, and uneven film.
Summary and Conclusion:
A Franco-Polish horror film (yeah, if you want to call it that!) that will delight a very specific audience—one I’m not a part of. It’s yet another film in a typically French style: slow-paced, with long, somber faces, and a shaky plot. Here’s yet another film that aims to be intellectual, I suppose, and is boring as hell. To each their own, but I take no pleasure in following the adventures of these “borderline” peasants from the depths of Poland.
Just to be clear, this isn’t a new version of Firestarter (1984 and 2022), even though the cover art might be misleading.
