Blood Simple (1984)

Alas…. I was too bored to say that this is a good film!

As much as Spielberg made a real masterpiece with his first film (which was supposed to be a TV movie!) “Duel”, this first official film of the Cohen brothers is relatively a piece of crap.

Frances McDormand was already great at the time. She already had all the makings of a great actress.

As for Mr. Emmet Walsh, I am surprised to see that he was already old at the time. I knew him in the late 80’s in Red Scorpion and early 90’s as Barry Allen’s father aka Flash… and he was old. But apparently he was already old in ’84.

A jealous husband asks a detective to follow his cheating wife. With confirmation of his adultery, he suggests the detective become a killer and liquidate the couple. He pretends to do so, pockets the money and kills the jealous and cuckolded husband. Afterwards, he still wants to go after the couple.

All this sounded intriguing to me… but after seeing this film, I realise how pathetic it is. I think I’m only going to see their films, the two brothers, from Fargo onwards and I can easily skip the previous ones.

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.
