The Flood (2023) is a disaster drama/action thriller. Let’s face it: a movie with Casper Van Dien can’t be a good movie!!! Even though he does quite well in “The Pact.”
Van Dien’s Starship Troopers was something special and new at the time, but then there was Dina Meyer & Neil Patrick Harris, and the charismatic Michael Ironside. I’m not going to say too much about Denise Richards or Jake Busey, who aren’t the film’s greatest talents… but they were there all the same!
This is a B-movie that leans heavily towards Z. That said, the alligators are especially poorly done in the first scene. If that’s all I’d based my opinion on, I’d have stopped the film after seven minutes.
But as a film buff, I watched it to the end. Nice film at times, but still pointless. It’s simply good entertainment, not too badly made, in spite of everything, to be seen once if you’ve got nothing else to sink your teeth into. But it does go on and on.
None of the actors shine. Nothing transcendent. Little coherence, no compelling dialogue.
In short!
But no unnecessary jump scares at the very end either, and thankfully so…
With a title like that, you’d think this was a natural disaster movie, not one with big alligators and lots of dangerous criminals being moved around in a prison van.
