Personally, I didn’t like Neil Jordan’s Byzantium very much. I found two other reviewers commented:

1). “The film has its length, but on the whole I found it interesting and successful. The clichés are few and far between, which I also liked a lot. certainly one of the best vampire films, even if it’s not really exceptional.”

🐺I agree that the clichés are not too present, indeed. There’s no question of sunlight, garlic or crucifixes here. Vampires can walk around in daylight. I think quite a few people liked this film. For my part, it reminded me, or convinced me, that I don’t like Vampire movies. I’m already not a huge fan of “Interview with a Vampire” by the same director.

2). “Ça va comme ça “A long vampire film that’s only visually convincing. Unfortunately, I didn’t like it, Gemma notwithstanding”.

🐺I’m inclined to agree… except that it’s Saoirse Ronan in particular who’s a good actress. I like Gemma Arterton in “Hansel & Gretel, Witch Hunters”, but this is the film I like. She could have been replaced by another actress (like Kate Beckinsale, given her performance in Van Helsing & Underworld). I’ve never seen transcendence in this actress. I think she’s successful just because she’s sexy. Whether I’ll ever change my mind remains to be seen.

Sam Riley, best known for his roles as Ian Curtis and Pierre Curie, doesn’t play as good a part here as he usually does. It’s not here that he’ll necessarily make his mark.

Only Fright Night 1 & 2 appealed to me among vampire films. And I’m clearly not talking about useless remakes. I also liked “From Dusk ‘til Dawn” and of course “What we do in the Shadows”, which is hilarious and even touching.

That said, being a film fan, I’ll give “Daybreakers” a chance, especially for the cast.  Other than that, I haven’t seen half of Neil Jordan’s films. I really liked “We’re No Angels (1989)” and I loved “The Brave One (2007)”. I’ve just seen his “In Dreams” and I was a little disappointed and unconvinced, even though it’s well directed with a pretty good rhythm and some magnificent effects. I’ll have to see “Greta” one of these days.
