A Good Marriage is a story about a couple that have been married for two decades…. until a sinister secret is unraveled.  A thriller film directed by Peter Askin inspired by the great Stephen King! Except that… Well… it’s not great!

The writer’s biggest fans, who know that he can go off in any direction, might find it to their liking. On the other hand, those looking for action, gore, non-stop violence, monsters… can easily go their separate ways!  This is a more or less subtle story. The film plays out like a police thriller. But I don’t think the ending is that great. A little too easy. Or not very credible, probably.

Personally, I didn’t believe it. You can’t do atrocious things, even if it’s for the good of your family, and turn the page just like that. As if nothing had happened.

Stephen Lang is a pleasure to watch here, even if we don’t see too much of him.

Spoiler alert: he’s not the film’s psychopath, unlike his performances without the two “Don’t Breathe” movies!

Joan Allen, very good actress. But I think she was misdirected at the end. Given that the film rests quite heavily on her shoulders, a better script would have saved her and made the film a masterpiece. Still, I’m sure the book (or script) is incredible and more than lives up to expectations. I’m convinced it’s badly staged. You can’t always transcribe the great master’s texts without damaging them.

Anthony Lapaglia: I think this actor has an air of the Baldwins.

He could have been their fifth brother. Same charisma, same style, almost the same face.

Cara Buono plays a role that’s usually in movies: that of the sexy neighbor! It’s amazing how she comes back time and time again. It’s always a character that works, given that the main character is always more attracted to the neighbor than to his own wife.

I would have liked to have seen the couple’s three children (one girl, two boys) a little more. Here, they seem almost useless. These characters aren’t explored at all in this film.

It’s a shame to waste any more potential. Okay! Let’s just say that it’s still a good film, to be seen once, if you don’t have a more thrilling thriller on hand. But I must stress that I’m not overly enthusiastic. My rating ⭐⭐⭐
