Hush (2008) Yes ! It’s fair to say that the British don’t do things by halves. Here we see the difference with American films of the genre. Things happen more abruptly, less prepared. This film is a delight, a real thriller, but ultra-violent in spite of everything. Some will say that it’s cat’s-paw, but that’s because their brains were fried a long time ago. I remind you that not so long ago, there was a guy called Hitchcock who managed to prove that you don’t need ultra-violence to make a good thriller. But that seems to have been forgotten by today’s filmmakers. The main couple, played by William Ash & Andreas Wisniewski, are very good. Both actors are very good. A road chase. You might think back to “Duel”, but also to “Joy Ride” with Steve Zahn and Leelee Sobiesk, but also perhaps to the great vehicle in Jeepers Creepers. The suspense is sometimes suffocating and unbearable, especially when the protagonist does exactly the opposite of what we would do in his place. The whole thing is very well conducted, well directed and well produced. There are lots of twists and turns, some of them a little ridiculous, and there are times when you really can’t believe it! It’s these details that don’t make it a perfect film. What’s more, the ending is very abrupt, ending too quickly. But after the credits start rolling, there’s one last scene that appears a few seconds later. And this scene is as much reassuring… as it is worrying. So… it cancels itself out and we’re left at ground zero before the credits. A must-see film for fans of the genre.
