The Darkness (2016 ) This one is a miss! I keep asking myself how can films that last 1h 32m seem so long? It finally happens at 1h22 what we’ve been waiting for a long time. But it happens very quickly and the very end is ultra fast. Basically, at 1:27, it’s over. And the credits last 5 minutes.

The lead actress is good, but she doesn’t give off anything extraordinary like others. You get the distress, understanding, compassion and support of a mother, that’s clear and there’s nothing to say about it. But she’s not the most endearing mother I’ve seen in a film. The children are slaps in the face for most of the film. You just want to smack them. As a result, it’s hard to get attached to the main characters, who aren’t particularly endearing.

As for Kevin Bacon, he’s often a great interest in his films. But this isn’t the role that would have propelled him to the top. It’s more likely that he’s on a downward slope. Unless he’s just decided to have some fun. A very attractive cover for a much less attractive film. A great start. But the pace is slow, full of long, pointless scenes. That said, the film does try to shed some light on invisible, spiritual events. Indeed, it’s hard not to believe in spirits in a world like ours. They are not necessarily evil, just as it seems clear that something invisible is not necessarily unreal. Quite the contrary…

So… as much as I like to play devil’s advocate and find positives… this film is a throwaway. It’s not necessarily worth seeing. But it can give a good time to someone who doesn’t want to think and just wants to be entertained. The producers of American Nightmare and Insidious threw money at the problem and thought that a bad film could pass like a letter in the post.

The film’s thought-provoking aspect ultimately takes a back seat and means that it doesn’t linger, unless you already have some knowledge of the subject, in this case the occult, the spirits of redskins from the Grand Canyon or something like that!
