The Missing Body (2025)

Original title: Il Cuerpo

Oh dear! What a waste of time! I hated this film. So I’m not surprised that loads of people think it’s a magnificent or excellent film – what am I saying? An undisputed, timeless masterpiece!

But… no, really! Not for me. There are people who can’t give a damn as long as they’re not watching an American film. They could be watching the biggest load of rubbish and they wouldn’t even realise it.

This film made me sick. And I’m not just talking about the scene where someone retrieves some paper (which they want to hide) from the toilet and swallows it, because the flush doesn’t work! The characters are detestable. And their humour is far from funny. The sex scenes are aesthetically pleasing, but the scenes where the characters kiss whilst talking are irritating. The eating scenes are just too much for me. OK, humans need to eat, but do we really need close-ups of their mouths and to hear all those horrible sounds coming out of them?

Synopsis: The death of businesswoman Rebecca Zuin, attributed to a supposed heart attack, arouses the suspicions of a police inspector after her body disappears from the mortuary.

An Italian crime thriller that is a remake of the Spanish film ‘El Cuerpo’, which I haven’t seen. But I hope it’s better.

It’s so slow, it drags on forever. Every scene takes ages. It’s not that the film lacks pace – it simply has none!

Some people must think I only give good marks to bad films and bad marks to the most incredible films in the history of cinema. What they completely overlook is that we all have our own tastes; no one is obliged to share them or agree with them.

This film isn’t a true ‘closed-door’ drama for me. There are too many scenes set elsewhere, outside. In a closed-room drama, as I see it, there aren’t so many incessant flashbacks showing people’s lives before the film began.

‘In prison, you’ll have plenty of time to rest!’ A rather rubbish and somewhat misleading line. With all the noise the inmates make, it’s not a place where you’re supposed to get any rest. On the other hand, you’ve got plenty of time to rest whilst watching this film. It’s quite long, so it’s ideal for a nice little nap without feeling guilty about a thing, given that you don’t miss a thing if you don’t watch it.

It drags on and on with explanations that are a right bore!

“My wife married me to annoy a man. I soon realised that man was me! Everyone in the cinema was laughing. Everyone except me.” is one of the film’s most important lines. It’s repeated twice.
The camera is often too close to the faces. This might make these scenes quite artistic, but they’re mostly sloppy, botched and ridiculous.

The ending isn’t too bad… but it was too late to salvage the film. The dialogue had become less and less interesting, but this ending is pleasant. Right, I’ll admit that the last twenty minutes are really good and that they save the film from total disaster and the lowest possible rating. But that doesn’t make it a good film.

Rating: 2 out of 5.
